The entire city of Nevada had a power outage today. It lasted about 4 hours at work, so I went down to Ankeny to do some work there. Power was out at home for an hour or so.
Our phone system went down at work because the UPS it was running off of ran out of power. Today is a big day for people calling orders in too because it’s the last day of ordering for deliveries next week. Our call center girls are gonna be working till about 9:00 tonight calling clients to get orders. I don’t know what we’re gonna do about a production schedule yet. We’re either gonna have to project numbers, which we usually don’t do for this line, or wait till tomorrow or late tonight to push out a production schedule. The kitchen is in need of work though, so I imagine we’ll just project.

Saw this on the SANS diary today:
A new sober variant is making the rounds, spreading surprisingly quickly.
We have received multiple reports, the file name we have seen is our_secret.zip.
Your anti-virus vendor of choice will have named it something interesting, with ’sober’ somewhere in there.
More info about it can be found here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sober.o@mm.html
The reason I post this is because the domain we use for e-mail got bombed with this virus today. Everyone with a purfoods.com e-mail address recieved multiple copies of it. Luckily I have Nod32 installed on all the PC’s here in the Nevada office.
They all came from the same Qwest IP address, so I just blocked all e-mails that come from that IP address. Seems to have worked so far.

Via Blogs of War:
The NSA Career Expo will be in San Antonio this week:
San Antonio, TX
May 4, 2005
Time 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Omni San Antonio Hotel
9821 Colonnade Blvd.
San Antonio, TX
Pre-registration is now closed. Walk-ins are welcome.
Again, according to Blogs of War, the NSA has expanded it’s operation in San Antonio. At least 1500 NSA employees are expected to be based in San Antonio.
I’ve always thought a job with the NSA would be pretty fun. Too much education required…I think.

This is wicked cool and going to be really useful for us here at work. We’re having to track packages all the time with FedEx and UPS. Google is gonna make it easy on us.
All you do is enter a tracking number, and Google will provide a link to the tracking page for your package. It’s really neat and can search UPC codes, FCC equipment ID’s, Vehicle ID numbers.
You should check it out: http://www.google.com/help/features.html#number

Yay! The guys @ the warehouse are verifying all senior orders today and tomorrow. I’m so excited that the system is finally going how it needs to be. I’ve been down to Ankeny the last 3 weekends in a row I think. At least I’m getting some good overtime.
Mike Schilling, the guy that does all our software, came down to Ankeny last Friday so he could fix up a few things. Everything is working much better now. I got the queries to generate a milk order for our senior clients all setup and working yesterday. The warehouse guys are testing it out today. I hope I don’t have to go down there any this week.
Today I’m gonna be writing some PHP to improve the order import process and to allow our warehouse manager to update UPC values in the database. Some of our products aren’t consistent and their UPC’s change every so often. Being able to update the UPC value for an item is almost a necessity.
I think we’re planning to get another verification system as soon as this one is up and running 100%. We also got the ethernet connection back to the warehouse/cooler going. Now I just need to go grab a WAP and a Wireless card and they’ll be set. I’m very happy that the guys in Ankeny should be able to scan all senior orders without any problems.

I haven’t seen it rain in a long time it feels like. It was supposed to rain yesterday, but that didn’t happen till about midnight lastnight. It was all done by the time I got up this morning for work.
Between 9:00 and 10:30 today it was sunny as a mother fucker out. Started getting really warm too. I went to the warehouse in Ankeny around noon, and by the time I got back around 2:30 pm, it was starting to sprinkle a little bit.
It finally started down pouring around 5:00, shortly before I left work. From the looks of the radar images, it’ll be raining for a while, probably through tomorrow afternoon. I hope so. I dunno why, I’ve just been wanting it to rain a lot. I think I miss all the fun thunderstorms in Iowa during the spring and summer months. Can’t wait for the tornadoes…
