O’Reilly: “Web 2.0″ is Ours

IT@Cork is a networking organization for IT professionals. They have an upcoming Web 2.0 half-day conference, which prompted O’Reilly to send a cease and desist letter. O’Reilly is claiming they’ve applied for a trademark for the term “Web 2.0″, attempting to prevent IT@Cork from using “Web 2.0″ for its conference.

How fucking stupid is that? O’Reilly is a company that tries to appeal to the open source community, trademarking a term that’s been in wide use on the internet for the last 2-3 years is gonna hurt their reputation. O’Reilly claims to have come up with the term “Web 2.0″ in 2003 while at the O’Reilly and CMP Web 2.0 Conference. That’s just fine and dandy, but for O’Reilly to do something like this is pretty out of the ordinary for the company. I really don’t care one way or the other, as I’ve mentioned my thoughts on “Web 2.0″ before. It’s a marketing ploy, probably developed by O’Reilly. So I say we let em have their silly “Web 2.0″ trademark.

OK, so all that went down yesterday. Today, IT@Cork received a fax from O’Reilly basically asking them to sign a document saying they’ll no longer use “Web 2.0″ at future events. The VP of Corporate Communications at O’Reilly, Sara Winge, had a message posted to the O’Reilly Radar blog about the “Web 2.0″ trademark controversy. It’s really pretty lame.

Nice job O’Reilly, you’ve upset a lot of people, a number of whom have been loyal customers for years.

George Galloway Justifies Murder of Tony Blair

Bush and Blair have decided to “Concede Missteps on Iraq.” Hot Air has a video of the news conference.

In a joint news conference, Bush said he had used inappropriate “tough talk” — such as saying “bring ‘em on” in reference to insurgents — that he said “sent the wrong signal to people.” He also said the “biggest mistake” for the United States was the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, in which guards photographed themselves sexually tormenting Iraqi prisoners, spawning revulsion worldwide. “We’ve been paying for that for a long period of time,” he said.

George Galloway used this as an opportunity to attack Tony Blair, saying “it would be entirely logical and explicable” for him to die via suicide bomber. Galloway is obviously off his rocker. The fact that he even suggests a suicide bombing to kill Blair is sick. Let’s face it, suicide bombings are a pretty sleazy and cowardly way to take a life.

The Respect MP George Galloway has said it would be morally justified for a suicide bomber to murder Tony Blair.

In an interview with GQ magazine, the reporter asked him: “Would the assassination of, say, Tony Blair by a suicide bomber - if there were no other casualties - be justified as revenge for the war on Iraq?”

Mr Galloway replied: “Yes, it would be morally justified. I am not calling for it - but if it happened it would be of a wholly different moral order to the events of 7/7. It would be entirely logical and explicable. And morally equivalent to ordering the deaths of thousands of innocent people in Iraq - as Blair did.”

Whose side are you on Galloway? Wait, I don’t think you should answer that. Decision ‘08 asks a good question, “George Galloway: Human Or Snake?”

Sister Toldjah is wondering if Galloway can be censured in front of the Parliament for his remarks. I would certainly think so, wether any action is actually taken against Galloway is probably up for debate.

Cold Fury dropped a great analogy in their Galloway post:

Listening to Leftard hero/terrorist-loving blowhard George Galloway talk about ethics and morals is roughly akin to listening to Ronald McDonald opine about fine wines and filet mignon.

SlimStat: Free Web Stats

SlimStat is a nice little PHP software package designed to help you track visits to your website or blog. Download Squad had a post about SlimStat this morning that sparked my interest.

I’ve been using Shaun Inman’s great ShortStat for a while. However, I wanted to be able to drill down into the stats and look at things in more detail.

When I started editing the code, I kept thinking of more and more things I’d like to change. SlimStat is the result.

SlimStat is based on ShortStat. ShortStat is no longer being developed. Instead the original author of ShortStat (Shaun Inman), is now working on Mint, which I’ve been using for the last few months. But none of that has anything to do with SlimStat. SlimStat has a different developer (Stephen Wettone). He just picked up where Shaun left off basically.

Blogging Pro also has a post about SlimStat, and a related WordPress plugin, WP-SlimStat. Although, the WordPress plugin uses SlimStat 0.9.2 where the current release of SlimStat is 0.9.4.

The Shining, For Real?

This is just fucking weird!

Columbia, SC
Cops went to a 44-year-old woman’s Gadsden home to investigate blood that she said was seeping out of her floor. They noticed a red liquid that looked like blood on the floor of her hallway and bathroom, as well as on the baseboards, carpets and lower parts of the bathroom cabinets, toilet and bathtub. There were puddles, splatters and smears of the stuff all over. The woman said the substance began to “appear” through the floor and seemed to follow her mother as her mother moved down the hallway and into the bathroom. The cop took some of the stuff to a lab for testing.

Just wanted to share that quick.

Stop the ACLU Blogburst: Immigration

Crossposted from Stop The ACLU.
Our erstwhile and dearly beloved President Bush, having found one of his testicles behind the couch, FINALLY gets around to attempting to begin to consider taking the correct course of action by deploying 6000 National Guard Troops to aid ICE in securing our Southern Border in Name Only (SBNO) and the ACLU races with all haste to try to undermine the deployment by whining incessantly and lying to the American people.

“Oh-ho” you say, along with “Kender? How can you say that the ACLU is LYING to the goodly citizens of the United States?”

Here’s how, and as usual, it is attributable to The Queen of the ACLU, The Beauty of the Bill of Rights, the Nancy of the Nine Amendments (ask him, there is no Second Amendment) Anthony Romero:

“Turning immigration enforcement policy into another military operation is not the answer. The president’s proposed deployment of National Guard troops violates the spirit of the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits the military from getting into the business of civilian law enforcement.

(emphasis mine)
source
Did you catch that?

I made it real big so you would catch it, but how many of you actually caught it?

Actually the question should be how many of you even know about it?

SEC. 15. From and after the passage of this act it shall not be lawful to employ any part of the Army of the United States, as a posse comitatus, or otherwise, for the purpose of executing the laws, except in such cases and under such circumstances as such employment of said force may be expressly authorized by the Constitution or by act of Congress; and no money appropriated by this act shall be used to pay any of the expenses incurred in the employment of any troops in violation of this section And any person willfully violating the provisions of this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction thereof shall be punished by fine not exceeding ten thousand dollars or imprisonment not exceeding two years or by both such fine and imprisonment.

Let me repeat that.

except in such cases and under such circumstances as such employment of said force may be expressly authorized by the Constitution or by act of Congress;

Got that? Never mind the fact that the since the Posse Comitatus Act is an AMERICAN LAW it should logically only apply to AMERICAN CITIZENS!!!!! But applying our laws to criminal aliens is a fight that the ACLU has won….for the moment.

But we all know that where the ACLU is concerned logic has nothing to do with it.

I propose the radical concept that it is SPECIFICALLY the job of the federal government to secure the border, and if we need National Guard Troops to accomplish that goal then that is what needs to get done. If these millions of criminal aliens were coming across with guns and in uniform would the ACLU demand that Bush not send the military to stop the invasion?

I bet they would.

In WW2 the current ACLU would have been suing the government for placing anti-aircraft guns on the coast (many of those were placed on private property with the owners blessings) and demanding that blackout rules be abolished because forcing one to turn out the lights during a possible air raid would put them in danger of tripping on something in the dark, thereby depriving them of their right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Of course, the ALCU is more than happy to let someone pursue their personal happiness in the dark, often times even when it involves children, but that is a rant for another day.

The fact of the matter is that the government has failed us by refusing to secure the border, and we have been invaded. The ACLU is doing everything in their power to stop the government from doing ITS’ JOB and in the process making us all a little less safe with each and every day that goes by.

Mexico Threatens Suits Over Guard Patrols

Isn’t this interesting? Mexico is all ready to launch lawsuits against the U.S. for protecting our own damn border. Why lawsuits? Well, Mexico is worried about the security and safety of the would-be border jumpers. Kinda ironic huh? I was 100% positive the Mexican government didn’t give a rats ass about their citizens, guess I was wrong.

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico - Mexico said Tuesday that it would file lawsuits in U.S. courts if National Guard troops on the border become directly involved in detaining migrants.

Mexican border officials also said they worried that sending troops to heavily trafficked regions would push illegal migrants into more perilous areas of the U.S.-Mexican border to avoid detection.

President Bush announced Monday that he would send 6,000 National Guard troops to the 2,000-mile border, but they would provide intelligence and surveillance support to Border Patrol agents, not catch and detain illegal immigrants.

Note, lawsuits happen “if National Guard troops on the border become directly involved in detaining migrants.” Migrants? Excuse me, but these aren’t fucking migrants. They’re illegal immigrants trying to make it to the U.S. for a better life. Sorry, but they’re criminals.

On a related note, Hyscience has a list of Republican Senators that voted with the Democrats on the immigration issue. Someone should probably let them know what a bad decision they made. At least bring it to their attention that they’re ignoring the will of their constituents, it’s the courteous thing to do.
