In “Brokeback Mountain”, two cowboys fall in love. OK, thats pretty far from the norm, but I can deal with that. The part that creeps me out is they “fall in love while wrangling sheep in Wyoming in 1963.”
Based on an Annie Proulx’s short story, “Brokeback Mountain” is about two cowboys who meet and fall in love while wrangling sheep in Wyoming in 1963. Their love lasts through two decades as they each get married to women and live “normal” lives.
“Moving and majestic,” said The New York Times; “An American masterpiece” said the New York Observer; “Unmissable and unforgettable” said Rolling Stone.
But The Wall Street Journal asked, “Is America ready for Marlboro men who love men?”
To answer that last question, probably, but should we have to be ready? It just seems like such an obvious attempt to generate hype. But that’s OK, I can’t get past the whole sheep rancher thing. There couldn’t have been a lot to do back then other than fuck some sheep and maybe even a dude here and there.
The story line sounds like it would make a better animated show on Comedy Central or Adult Swim than it does a movie.
Yesterday a man was shot and killed on an airplane in Miami when he claimed he had a bomb, due to heightened security from an airline terror alert, that much we all know.
But it is being reported by ABC that what caused the alert was a 50 year old Egyptian had been stopped in JFK Airport by the TSA in New York. His shoes were “suspicious” and tested positive for the explosive TATP in five separate tests. The tests revealed explosive residue on the interior of the shoe between the heel and sole. The Egyptian man was scheduled to board a flight to Des Moines Iowa where he claimed to be a student at Iowa State University in Ames. The man was detained overnight but released the next day before the FBI was notified or had a chance to speak with him. A nationwide search is now in effect for this man and it was this nationwide alert that caused the Miami Air Marshal to be in a heightened state of awareness when he shot and killed a man who claimed to have a bomb onboard a plane yesterday.
-The pieces of this story add up to some pretty scary stuff I you live here in Iowa:
-A 50 year old ISU student??
-Wearing shoes similar to those worn by shoe bomber Richard Reid
-The FBI was not informed
-Destined for Des Moines, Iowa
…and most frighteningly he is on the loose and his whereabouts unknown.
Ive seen this mentioned on only one blog on a technorati search, and just the ABC Exclusive article mentions it but it is something every Iowan at the very least should be aware of. More details may come in time. IrishWalsh told ya first.
Dr. Charles Nestor, director of The Truth Matters, is announcing a project called “Operation Nativity” with the goal of having Christians across the country set up nativity scenes on their own property.
Nestor states, “It’s that time of year again. We’re not even out of October and already the forces are aligning to prohibit the public celebration of the birth of Jesus.
“December 25 is the day in our culture that is set aside to acknowledge and to celebrate that Jesus of Nazareth was born. For Christians it is more than a day of feasting and the exchange of gifts, it is a holy and solemn time to join our voices in unison as the angels proclaimed on the hillside to the shepherds, ‘Glory to God in the highest.’
“I am calling for Christians everywhere to join me in Operation Nativity. While we continue to support the public displays, let’s flood the country with nativity scenes on our own properties!
“Think with me what could happen if on lawns in every community, on business property, on church lawns, at Christian schools, on empty land, and literally everywhere you looked, there was the depiction of the scene that recognizes the birth of Jesus.
“Simple cutouts are available. Many already own lighted sets. It could be a family project, filled with opportunities to teach children about the events surrounding the birth of the Savior.Source
We are all for this, and encourage everyone to join in this expression of Christmas. And we want to take this idea and run with it! Decorate your blog for Christmas with a nativity scene, in support of religious expression, and as a sign of your support for stopping the ACLU. The ACLU will be busy this Christmas season, lets be prepared.
Please download the pics, and host them yourself…I can not afford the bandwidth of hotlinking. If you want to put the nativity scene pic in support of Stop The ACLU, and to decorate your blog for the Christmas season, copy the code below, and replace the URL of the pics with the downloaded pic that you host.
If you want to put the Homeland Holiday Advisory System, copy this code.
If you decide to add these to your sidebar, spread the word with a post, and then let us know with a trackback! Here’s to the Christmas holiday!
Joshua Sparling, who’s been at Walter Reed Army Medical Center recovering from a gunshot wound he got in Iraq, got a really special Christmas card the other day. The cards outside looked all patriotic and pretty. The text inside the card read “Have a great time in the war and have a great time dieing in the war” “P.S. DIE”. Sweet huh?
Can’t imagine how Mr. Sparling felt after getting a card like that. I don’t think I could resist hunting the “christmas death wishing” pig down and gutting him immediately. Michelle Malkin has a mailing address for Joshua Sparling if you want to send him a real Christmas blessing.
Another disgusting piece of news today too, involving my good buddy John Kerry. Kerry seems to think American soldiers in Iraq are the ones really spreading terror. Captains Quarters has a link to the full transcript, quoted below.
SCHIEFFER: All right. Let me shift to another point of view, and it comes from another Democrat, Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. He takes a very different view. He says basically we should stay the course because, he says, real progress is being made. He said this is a war between 27 million Iraqis who want freedom and 10,000 terrorists. He says we’re in a watershed transformation. What about that?
Sen. KERRY: Let me–I–first of all, there is so much more that unites Democrats than divides us. And Democrats have much more in common with each other than they do with George Bush’s policy right now. Now Joe Lieberman, I believe, also voted for the resolution which said the president needs to make more clear what he’s doing and set out benchmarks, and that the policy hasn’t been working. We all believe him when you say, `Stay the course.’ That’s the president’s policy, which hasn’t been changing, which is a policy of failure. I don’t agree with that. But I think what we need to do is recognize what we all agree on, which is you’ve got to begin to set benchmarks for accomplishment. You’ve got to begin to transfer authority to the Iraqis. And there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children, you know, women, breaking sort of the customs of the–of–the historical customs, religious customs. Whether you like it or not…
SCHIEFFER: Yeah.
Sen. KERRY: …Iraqis should be doing that. And after all of these two and a half years, with all of the talk of 210,000 people trained, there just is no excuse for not transferring more of that authority.
Wow, that’s some top-notch hippie-babble right there. Young american soldiers are “going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children”? What the fuck Kerry? He can’t pull much more shit than that outta his ass. Or maybe he can, can never tell what those hippie-liberal-douche-bag types are in to sexually. So, in all reality, he’s probably got a lot more room for a lot more shit.
You suck Kerry, we’d all be dead now if you’d been elected. heh. The Political Teen has video, unless the videos are down right now.
Dan at Riehl World View is wondering if H5N1 (the Avian flu we’ve been hearing about) has begun transferring from human to human.
Dan’s also got an important update containing information from Hyscience.
Hyscience – I believe the report, and have actually reported of H to H transmission of H5N1 over a year ago – and not picked up on by media and agencies. here, here, and( here which sourced this research report that human to human transmission actually occured in July / early August 2004 – but not covered by media or agencies)
Hyscience is always a really good source of news for stuff like this. Richard has done a really nice job with the site. It’s been one of my long time favorites. You can’t find information like this at many other places:
Indonesia was in the news in November as a result of its decision to begin manufacturing (pirating) the anti-flu drug Tamiflu (oseltamavir), but they are likely to be disappointed in the results, should they elect to depend upon it for protection against the H5N1 virus (it’s already showing resistance to tamiflu). Previously, genetic sequencing of influenza A (H5N1) virus samples from human cases in Vietnam and Thailand showed resistance to the antiviral medications amantadine and rimantadine, 2 of the other medications commonly used for treatment of influenza. This would leave 1 remaining antiviral medication (zanamavir) that may still be effective against currently circulating strains of H5N1. This fact has not been sufficiently covered by cable and print media.
I usually wouldn’t write about this sort of topic, simply because it doesn’t really affect me at this exact point in time, call me selfish. And I’d be seriously pissed if I were to lose my life to a bird flu. I can’t imagine dying from a bird flu. If I did and it were possible, I’d be ashamed of my death. This does deserve attention though, especially if it’s confirmed human to human transmission has occured. I wonder exactly how much quicker it would spread, given human to human transmission is possible at this time.
Officials in at least two nations now suspect the avian flu bug has mutated into a virus that is being transmitted from human to human – a development world health authorities have estimated could result in the deaths of tens of millions.
Thai health officials have expressed concern that the country’s two latest confirmed victims may be the beginning of the much feared human-to-human transmission.
Go read Dan’s post at Riehl World View for a link to the full article above. I don’t think it’s all bad though. The sheer amount of people on Earth is getting a little out of hand, something like H5N1 could put a nice little dent in the number. We are due for another “cleansing” event, I can’t imagine a better time than now.
