Rita Preparations

I so badly wanted to punch New Orleans mayor Nagin in the face the other day. He’s a total asshat, getting pissed off because Thad Allen warned people not to go back to New Orleans. At least Nagin has enough of a brain to listen to Thad, nevermind Nagin berating Thad for warning the people of New Orleans not to go back.

Supposedly, it’ll take about 3″ of additional rain in New Orleans to breach the levee system again. Scary, as 3 inches of rain at once isn’t uncommon even here in Iowa. I’d expect more than that on the Gulf coast, aside from there being another major hurricane approaching.

Michelle Malkin has some good links, including one to Jason Smith (Generation Why). Jason’s got pictures comparing the evacuation of Houston compared to that of New Orleans.

PowerPundit has word that Rita is approaching level 5 hurricane status. The WeatherBlog has the same information. Wasn’t Rita still a tropical storm yesterday?

Heather, who has written for HurricAid and lives in Houston, is evacuating her residence tonight. She has contact info for anyone staying in Houston who wants her to publish some information for them. Could be useful once Rita makes landfall.

The Political Teen has Rita’s expected track. The stormtrack has been basically the same for a few days now. I think it’s expected to make landfall slightly more north of their original estimates. In all reality, it could do anything from hitting Mexico to clobbering New Orleans and the rest of the northern gulf coast again. Should make for an interesting next couple of days.

I’ll be interested to see what level of hurricane this is when it makes landfall. I believe it’s technically still a level 4 hurricane, but a powerful level 4. Sounds like Katrina. Looks like Katrina.

I hope it doesn’t hit New Orleans again. Or anywhere in the U.S. If it does, and causes serious damage like Katrina, expect the islamo-nuts to praise Allah for sending Rita to destroy all us dirty kuffars. Just like they did with Katrina. They’re silly. claim.

Yah, I’m a Slacker

I don’t know if I’ve just been lazy the past few days or what. Nothing has really caught my attention, hence the lack of posting. Maybe something will come up later on today…

No More N.O. Occupation!

Cindy Sheehan is back, and stupider than ever. I read about this a little bit yesterday before I unplugged myself for the day.

“You know something, Billy? I don’t care if a human being is black, brown, white, yellow or pink, or if she’s Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, or pagan. I don’t care what flag a person salutes: if a human being is hungry, then it is up to another human being to feed him/her. George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power. The only way America will become more secure is if we have a new administration that cares about Americans even if they don’t fall into the top two percent of the wealthiest.”

Did ya read that? Pretty retarded huh? I just can’t believe she’s still out there being the huge attention whore she is. I know, I know, I’m only contributing to her continued 15 minutes of fame. I think it’s been about 30 -45 minutes of fame now. Either way she’s obviously totally detached from any sort of reality. I may write some space-man type shit sometimes, but come on, pull troops out of New Orleans?

Cindy is obviously racist. She’d rather we leave New Orleans so everyone left will just die. Not really, but I can use the same mentality she does, right?

Mark in Mexico has a huge list of people covering this along with commentary. California Conservative has a few updates on this matter. The Political Teen thinks Cindy is just pissed at Katrina for stealing her news coverage. I don’t think he could be more right. Political Musings doesn’t know what’s worse. The fact that our left takes Cindy seriously or the fact that she’s still getting news coverage. TigerHawk calls for an end to the occupation of New Orleans too!

Bush Needs Potty Break

I saw this via WizBang just a few minutes ago. It’s scary that Reuters has the balls to photoshop a note to make it look like Bush wanted to take a bathroom break during a meeting.

Reuters has already explained, saying “There was no malicious intent. That’s not what we do.” That’s a bullshit explanation though for photoshopping a note Bush was writing. They’re obviously trying to make him look bad. It’s a direct attack against him if they knowingly did it. Someone obviously did because you can see where they blanked out the original text. It’s too white compared to the rest of the paper.

Daily Pundit filled me in on the Reuters explanation. Little Green Footballs has a couple updates.

I can’t believe they would actually use that photoshopped image in actual news articles. This is probably one of the most fucked up things we’ve seen from Reuters. I’ve lost what little respect I had for the MSM. This type of thing is just wrong.

UPDATE: I need to clarify a little it would seem. I fully understand that Reuters could have enhanced the image to make the text more readable. For those of you that say the note was shown to show Bush for the puppet he is, you’re wrong. He needs to show a certain level of diplomacy at meetings like that. He can’t just get up and go piss when he feels like it, it would offend someone.

Bush’s NOLA Speech

President Bush was on the tele lastnight discussing basically everything Katrina. I didn’t listen to much of it, maybe 15 minutes total. From what I heard, Bush did an excellent job. I heard him promising lots of money to lots of people. Hopefully he follows through.

If I was a refugee from Katrina, hearing Bush’s words lastnight would have put my mind at ease, at least for a while. He did a great job of explaining himself and touching on all the major pieces the MSM has brought up in regards to Katrina. I don’t think he could have done a much better job.

There is going to be a lot of money spent, no doubt about it. Sister Toldjah thinks it’ll end up being more than $200 billion, I agree. Other fiscal conservatives are blowing their gaskets at the amount of money Bush plans on spending on the rebuilding efforts. We’re rebuilding basically the entire gulf coast. An undertaking like that won’t come cheap. Is it worth it? I’d say yes.

Pundit Guy was left with a fowl taste in his mouth:

Presidents who give away other peoples money have always given me a bad taste in my mouth. And tonight, while watching George W. Bush, that taste showed up.

and

Once he started handing out the candy…it seemed as though he just couldn’t stop. The costs for rebuilding could reach $200 billion or beyond. And this is $200 billion ABOVE AND BEYOND the cost of the war.

All valid points. I would rather see all this money being poured into the war on terror. Since Katrina was here that won’t happen though. Bush knows he has to spend more money here, in his own country rather than spending money internationally. If he didn’t give huge amounts of money to rebuild and support Katrina victims, he would be run out of the country by the kook liberal nutjobs. He’s really doing the only thing he can do.

IE UI Designer Switches

Scott Berkun was the UI designer for Internet Explorer (versions 1.0 through 5.0). He’s decided to make the switch to Firefox, for various reasons.

It’s a sad day and a good day. For years I’ve held onto my IE install out of love. I worked on IE 1.0 thru 5.0, and was one of the people that designed much of its UI. But my love for the past has faded. Last week I switched to Firefox: and I’ve been happy.

Check out his reasons for switching to Firefox and some UI changes he might make in Firefox. Makes for a good read, especially coming from a guy who was an IE developer.
