I had been using personalized Google for quite a while as my homepage. Mostly because I haven’t gotten a Feedlounge account yet. Anyway, I noticed some changes to personalized Google this morning. They added the ability to add many more news sources.
It’s now possible to store bookmarks with Google. You just add a few URL’s and their descriptions and they’ll be listed on your personalized Google homepage. RSS feeds can also be added now, which is awesome! It’s a pretty basic RSS feed reader but it works for me. It doesn’t show any detail on the RSS feed stories, but it does grab the titles and provides a link to the entire story.
I knew this feature was coming soon, just wasn’t sure when. I half expected to see this when I got back from Colorado, a couple days later works I guess. Diggity over @ They’re Just Words says personalized Google is now his official homepage. If I wasn’t using it as my homepage before, I definately would be now just because of the RSS features. Search Engine Hearld also makes note of the added features.
And of course, Search Engine Roundtable, has all the info along with links to forums discussing these newly added features to personalized Google. If you haven’t tried personalized Google out yet, I suggest you at least give it a shot.
So, we got back from Colorado lastnight around midnight or so. I started driving around 6:30 am on Saturday morning. It took about 18 hours total, could have been a lot quicker, but it wasn’t. We just made up driving directions on the fly, which wasn’t such a good choice. We ended up on a few county roads in Colorado for a while, which really slowed us down. Same thing happened in Nebraska and Kansas. We took I-70 from Colorado Springs to Kansas and then took a smaller highway from Kansas up to I-80 in Nebraska. Our total milage on the way home was about 1054. I drove the entire way as Ashley was my navigator.
We had a really great time in Colorado. I very much enjoyed meeting her family. I spent a lot of time with her cousins Justin, Andy, Kyle, and Brad. The house Ashley and I stayed in was huge. We had a hot-tub outside to ourselves every night. Some of her older relatives were staying in that house with us so we weren’t there too much. They like to go to bed early and we stayed up till at least 1:00 am most nights.
I took a lot of pictures. Most of them are pics of her cousins and their families “duckying” on the Taylor river. A “ducky” is a little personal raft for going down the rivers. I didn’t get to do that but I did get to go rafting along with Ashley, her dad, her aunt Kyla, and her cousin Kyle. Kyle and I volunteered to sit in front as we were bound to get the wetest. Nobody fell out wich sorta disappointed me. The water was freezing, about 45 degrees, so not quite freezing. We stopped halfway down our course to relax a bit. While stopped we did the “plunge”. There’s a rock in the river that you stand on and just fall backwards into the river. Behind the rock is a pretty deep spot in the river. I did the plunge and couldn’t breathe for about 20 seconds after hitting the water. Other than trying to breathe, it was good.
This will be my last post before leaving for Colorado. Ashley and I are leaving at 8:00 AM tomorrow morning. Mom decided to let us take her car as Ashley and I don’t have any cars that we trust to make it to Colorado. I’m just glad I’m not gonna have to rent a car.
Tonight we’re going out for dinner for Amber’s birthday. Amber is Ashley’s older sister who’s not going to Colorado this year. She’s not going cuz she has to stay here @ work cuz Ashley will be gone.
Lots of stuff has gone wrong today at work. I’m not even gonna go into details, it just sucks. There wouldn’t be any problems if I wasn’t leaving for Colorado tomorrow. Just a few things that I really would have liked to get taken care of before leaving.
Ashley and I will be returning on Sunday, July 24th. Back just in time for work on the 25th. I won’t be watching this site while I’m gone. I expect to see a shit load of trackback and comment spam when I get back. Just ignore it if you see any as I’m not gonna do anything to stop it permanently before I leave. I’ll make a permanent fix when I get back.
The Qando Blog says there could possibly be three openings on the Supreme Court by the end of the summer. I think this is highly unlikely and I’m not sure why I’m even writing about this. Some UCLA law professor says he got an e-mail from “a reliable source” on the issue…see below.
I got an email today from a reliable source opining that Justice John Paul Stevens will retire this summer if, but only if, CJ Rehnquist steps down. The theory is that Stevens will be willing to let Bush fill his slot only if there are so many spots available that Bush will feel free and/or pressure to nominate at least one moderate. If true, my guess is that the three slots would go to: Alberto Gonzales, probably as Chief, since he’s Bush’s closest judicial friend and Bush seems so eager to appoint the first Hispanic; Edith Jones (or possibly Janice Rogers Brown) so that a woman replaces O’Connor; and Michael McConnell to make both business and social conservatives happy. Let’s see Tradesports figure out a contract for that one!
One of the Qando Blog readers thinks Hillary Rodham Clinton would be an ideal choice for one of the positions. McQ, a writer at Qando thinks 3 available positions will make the left go nuts, which it will as it’ll be Bush’s responsibility to fill those positions. I believe Armageddon is the word he used….
I don’t really believe any of this. Sure, there’s a chance it could happen, but I could also be killed right now from a poopsicle falling from a jetliner. I don’t know why I should trust this guy’s source…I’ll stay skeptical.
OK, well I had to write about this quick too. Firefox 1.0.5 has been released. I just downloaded it at work. I’ll be installing it on everyone’s PC’s soon. I’ve been using the Deer Park Alpha 2 for a while now. It’s way more unstable for me than Deer Park Alpha 1.
