God Damn the Man

0

This is getting old. Subjecting people to rooms that aren’t air-conditioned isn’t torture. Letting one urinate on ones self isn’t torture. I pissed myself a lot when I was a baby. I didn’t have the ability to claim torture then, so maybe that’s why I never said anything about the horrendous torture I was subjected to as an infant.

The U.N. has uncovered torture at Gitmo. Did you know that? It’s really exciting, since it’s way off base. It seems the U.N. is condeming the US for non-cooperation in the Gitmo investigation, not what the AP would have you believe.

Rusty at The Jawa Report says he knows of no torture occuring at Gitmo. He makes a good point, as usual.

So, the fact that there have been allegations means that these allegations are true, unless proven otherwise??

That’s logic for you.

And where are these allegations coming from? As far as I have been able to conclude, all of the allegations of ‘torture’ have come from freed prisoners from Gitmo. However, according to an al Qaeda training manual:

If captured, the manual states, “At the beginning of the trial … the brothers must insist on proving that torture was inflicted on them by state security before the judge. Complain of mistreatment while in prison.”

As far as the alleged abuse that has come from declassified documents I know of no torture. What I do know of is harsh treatment that idiots on the Left have characterized as torture.

The specific allegations:
-detainee chained hand and foot in a fetal position to the floor
-detainees who had defecated/urinated on themselves
-no air conditioning
-too much air conditioning
-loud music

Yah, loud music is definately torture. Sorry, I’m feelin sarcastic today. If people were having their nipples twisted off, or unusually shaped objects rammed into their asses, I’d understand the claims of torture. Simply being uncomfortable isn’t torture. Fuck, I could claim I’m being tortured at work when our air conditioner dies.

God this shit is getting to be really amusing. Oh, it’s really cool to do evil things to the Koran these days. Here’s some pics for you to enjoy. It does look like fun, I might have to pick one up sometime and abuse the hell outta it.

Gware

0

I just learned about Gware. It’s an unintrusive Gnome install for Slackware. Gnome is no longer being included in future Slackware releases. Gware is meant to act as a replacement for the Gnome that’s no longer in Slackware. Below is a little description about Gware and why it’s here.

The GWARE project is a small team of 3rd party Slackware developers focused on creating a robust, unintrusive GNOME packaged for Slackware linux. The default GNOME installation on Slackware is incomplete, and now faces the possibility of being dropped completely. The GWARE project formed to ensure Slackware users who wanted GNOME that it would remain available, up-to-date, and include important capabilities left out of the official installation (such as support for cups printing).

We make it a priority to integrate with an existing install seamlessly. If we replace an official package it’s because GNOME requires it. Such replacements (upgrades) should always be inconsequential.

There’s always Dropline Gnome, but some people don’t like using it as it modifies your system pretty heavily. I’ve been using Dropline Gnome for about 2 years or more, and I totally love it. Dropline definately has the most polished Gnome desktop for Slackware, hands down. The themes they’ve been coming out with are freakin beautiful! Two of the themes were in the Top 5 at art.gnome.org for a while.

Did I mention I love Gnome?

New Technorati

6

I wrote about the Technorati beta a while ago. Well, it’s finally come out of beta and is now acting as the main Technorati page. I really like the new site, very pretty. The Technorati Weblog announced the new site yesterday.

They have a list of new features and changes in that post. I would mention some, but you should just visit the Technorati Weblog announcement.

New Links says last time Technorati switched sites, the entire service was broken for a while. The Blog Herald points out that the new design brings a much needed modern look.

And on another note, the actual Technorati site seems to be going really slow. I noticed that sometimes even with their old site. I can’t imagine this new site will speed things up much. I wonder what the cause of the slowness is. It’s really bad sometimes.

New Stable Linux Kernel

0

It’s finally come out, linux kernel 2.6.12. I’ve been running the various 2.6.11.* kernels for the last few months it seems like. Have been waiting for ever for 2.6.12 stable to come out. Typically I’ll run the testing kernels, but didn’t want to upgrade to 2.6.12 before it became stable. No reason really.

I think it came out today. Nearly three and a half months after 2.6.11 was released. KernelTrap has the best summary I’ve seen so far. And I haven’t really read much of the ChangeLog, so I can’t really say anything about it at the moment. It’s downloading right now, at unusually slow speeds. Anyway, here’s what KernelTrap says.

This is the first stable release of the Linux kernel since the source code was moved out of BitKeeper in early April of 2005 [story]. 2.6.12-rc3, released in late April, was the first release candidate kernel managed by Git [http://kerneltrap.org/node/5031], thus Linus’ git repository only holds changes since 2.6.12-rc2. Due to this fact, Linus did not release a complete changelog between 2.6.11 [story] and 2.6.12. He explains, “the full ChangeLog ended up missing, because I only have the history from 2.6.12-rc2 in my git archives, but if you want to, you can puzzle it together by taking the 2.6.12 changelog and merging it with the -rc1 and -rc2 logs in the testing directory.” The latest version of the Linux kernel can be obtained directly from the kernel.org archive [story], or your nearest kernel archives mirror.

KernelTrap also has links to related stories they’ve done, mostly about 2.6.12 and about the move to Git from BitKeeper.

That’s a Big Scared Monkey!

0

It seems Scared Monkeys, a blog I read daily, is witnessing some huge growth. Mostly due to the Natalee Holloway story. So far this week, they’ve had to switch hosting plans twice to accomodate the increase in traffic.

They’ve also setup a donations page so people can contribute to keep the site up and running. They say their hits have gone from 600 a day to over 40,000 a day in under two weeks. That’s simply amazing. If I got that much traffic this website would cease to exist. I’ll stick with the 600 or so uniques a day I get now, thank you.

I’m glad to see Scared Monkeys has been growing so much. They always have very unique content and they’re really quick about posting breaking news and just staying on top of things in general. There’s not much that gets past those guys.

Here’s a little bit from the post about the sites growth.

Recently, the cost of our bandwidth has spiked as the Natalee Holloway story has gained momentum. We have had to change our hosting plan twice this past week to cover the increased volume. It has gone from 600 a day to 40,000 a day in a little over 2 weeks.

We are not complaining about this at all. It is a wonderful opportunity and we have made many new friends. Not to mention very interesting. But now we are improving Scared Monkeys to serve a much larger purpose than it was initially designed to. We have the web log, we have added a full discussion forum in the last two days that has over 450 members. We are looking to create a new site dedicated to the exciting news stories of the day, while maintaining the original Scared Monkeys that is a bit more personal and political.
