This again coming from The Jawa Report. Turns out there may be a few loopholes in it…
The REAL ID Act, advertised as preventing states from issuing driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, is now the law of the land.
REAL ID has all the right enemies. The Treason Lobby has denounced it as preventing “many drivers” from obtaining licenses.
But this is the truth: the REAL ID Act still contains loopholes big enough to allow truckloads of illegal aliens to get valid temporary state driver’s licenses.

It’s pretty well set now that the Mediacom speed upgrades (78 days out) won’t include 512kbps upload. The upload will remain at 256. That is totally fucking bogus. I feel sorry for the people that get VOIP from Mediacom. They have to be experiencing lag on their calls. It’s only gonna get worse for them with the upgrades too. I’m sorry, but 256kbps up doesn’t make any sense with 5mbps down. It just doesn’t. 256kbps up is barely enough to game online. I played cooperative Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory lastnight on Xbox Live, it was decently laggy.
Mediacom is also claiming that major upgrades would be required all over the place to offer 512kbps upload for everyone. That’s can’t be true. Well, it could be as I hear Mediacom bought a bunch of old, crappy “nodes”. Those “nodes” are supposedly the reason that mass upgrades would be required. Maybe they shouldn’t have bought them in the first place. If I had a cable company like Mediacom I’d get top of the line stuff all the time. Fuck buying old, out of date stuff that won’t serve your needs or your customers needs.
Mediacom has some problems to say the least. I’ve been happy with my internet service lately though as it hasn’t been down much. I now feel the more costly 10/1 package is the only upgrade option for me. I don’t really need an increase in download, just upload. An upload increase is necessary. I want to play games online and not have to deal with lag! VOIP would be neat to get too, although I wouldn’t buy from Mediacom. Probably Vonage or something else.

So, I’ve been looking for some good photo management software for Linux. Specifically for the Gnome desktop.
The first I found was Glimmr. It’s a Flickr uploader for Gnome and is written in Mono/C#. It’s not really a photo management suite, mostly just a tool to tag and upload images to Flickr.
The second was F-Spot. F-Spot also has the ability to upload to Flickr. It also has a lot of other built-in functionality. It’s not designed specifically for Flickr as Glimmr is. F-Spot is more of a generic photo management suite.
I am unable to actively use F-Spot though as no thumbnails show for any of my images, they’re just blank. I have all required dependencies. It’s very disappointing as I was really excited to start using F-Spot. I even downloaded the lastest development version from the Gnome CVS, still no fix for the thumbnails though. I hung around in #mono on irc.gnome.org for a while hoping for some assistance, but none ever came.
Does anyone else have any suggestions for photo management software? I’ve tried Picasa, which is OK. But I really want something for Linux as that’s where I store all my photos. And I just plug my camera in via USB and it’ll be mounted on my desktop.

This is the news I’ve been waiting for. Apparently it’s been known for a while, not by me I guess. The Xbox 360 will play original Xbox games. However, as the Xbox 360 Blog points out, the system will cost $400 with the hard drive and backwards compatibility with older games. Only $300 with no hard drive and backwards compatibility. This is from Reuters:
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. said on Monday its new Xbox 360 will run video games developed for the earlier generation of its gaming machine, an enticement to get fans who have already spent hundreds of dollars on older Xbox games to purchase new hardware.
The world’s largest software maker also announced a deal to feature Japanese publisher Square Enix Co. Ltd.’s “Final Fantasy” games, which up to now have been a cornerstone of rival Sony Corp.’s PS2 franchise.
Microsoft, which unveiled the Xbox 360 last week, will have between 25 and 40 game titles for the machine by the end of this year, with more than 160 games under development.

Kudos to Mike @ MINDSPILL. He had some very nice things to say about this site.
The first post was about Sage Mozilla Newsreader and seconds later I downloaded the software. This is a great site full of very interesting posts about the better aspects of the internet, a definite daily read.
Interesting information huh? There needs to be more interesting info to post here. There’s been a lack of it these last few days. Maybe I should make up a “recipe for tyler”, Mike’s is killer!

MySQL 4.1.12 has finally come to pass. The mysql site says it was released on May 13, but today is the first time I’ve seen anything about it.
A fairly large number of bugs have been fixed along with a few changes in functionality. Just the usual stuff I guess. I’ve been debating on wether or not I want to upgrade to the 5.0.x series. I haven’t really come to a decision yet, most likely I’ll put it off a few more months.
