Iraq must be bad

0

About one month till the elections in Iraq. That’s not very long considering the people don’t even know the names of the candidates.

Candidate names are being withheld for security reasons. This is a joke. How can a person make an informed decision at the polls when they don’t have much time to get to know the candidates? A month left and the candidates names haven’t been released. Democracy can’t take root under these circumstances.

Going ahead with the elections is a big mistake. Militias in Iraq have been threatening “don’t vote ~ or else!“. The fact that the Iraqi people don’t even know who they’re gonna be voting for is just silly. The U.S. will end up appointing a president anyway. It’s not like the votes count.

At least the Iraqi people don’t have to deal with T.V. campaign ads for 2 years prior to the election. The whole situation is shit.

Dropline Gnome 2.8.2 – FINAL

0

Yes, the final release of Dropline Gnome 2.8.2 is finally here. This is the first community release of DLG. Previous releases were mostly due to the work of Todd. Now, there’s a number of DLG community members working together to bring us a nice, pretty desktop for our Slackware boxes.

I’m very happy with this new release of Dropline Gnome. I haven’t had any issues with it as of yet. I wanna go home and use it, but I can’t. I at least with I could run Linux and Dropline Gnome on my pc here @ work.

Here’s the official announcement in the DLG Forums:

I gotta work

0

Yah, I gotta work for a little while today. Sorta annoying considering that I didn’t HAVE to work.

Yesterday (thursday), I was told I wouldn’t have to come in on Friday (today). Well, they told me this at 3:30 yesterday, 1.5 hours before I leave. I usually burn backups on Friday. So, I had to burn 15 discs of 9gb of data in 1.5 hours at 4x (stupid cd-rw’s). As you can imagine, that’s impossible to do. So, I came in today to finish burning those backups. I’d be screwed if something went screwy here over the weekend and we didn’t have any fresh backups on Monday.

Anyway, I’m @ work right now. Should be done here in about an hour or so. After that I’m gonna go get Ashley’s Christmas present and go wrap it at Mom’s house I think. Tonight I’m going to Ashley’s parents house for Christmas. Tomorrow I am eating dinner at my Mom’s house. I dunno who else I have to go visit tomorrow. Ashley wants me to go to a couple places with her. I dun think I’m gonna have much free time this weekend.

Oh yah, I dun think I mentioned this, but I bought myself a new cd burner the other day. I had to have one. The one I got from work in that pc I got doesn’t work. And my notebook totally died. I got a new 52x Sony burner. I was gonna get a dvd burner, but Best Buy in Ames didn’t have any I wanted, and they were all over-priced.

MPAA

0

They’ve got a little bit of a problem on their hands. Namely with the Bittorrent community. They are bringing lawsuits against operators of sites such as Torrentbits.org, Demonoid.com, and Suprnova.org. What they fail to understand, is none of their movies are actually on any of those servers.

All these websites have/had disclaimers explaining that there’s not actually any copyrighted materials stored on their servers. Just meta files that can fetch the copyrighted material for you, via BitTorrent.

These lawsuits greatly disturb me since the site operators aren’t doing anything illegal. They do make it easier for people to find what they’re looking for, but the individuals downloading the copyrighted material are the one who should be sued, not the site operators.

Below are some links to letters from the MPAA to the demonoid.com hosting provider. If I was a hosting company, there’s no way I’d turn over the info the MPAA is requesting.

Anyway, here’s links to copies of the letters:

Stupid Cracker

You gotta read that. This guy is funny as hell. He’s also a jack ass. The accusations against VA Systems and Slashdot, also hilarious. Anyway, he’s supposedly some kind of prophet, named SOLLOG. Wikipedia gave both sides of his story, which he didn’t like. Someone contributing to the Wikipedia page about him called his prophecies into question.

He started www.wikipediasucks.com, the mature dude that he is. Notice all the links at the top of the page? “1 News – 1 Search – 1 For Sale” blah, blah, blah. Anyway, same links on the 247news.net website. It’s pretty obvious he owns the 247news.net site too. He’s writing news about himself as if it’s not him? That’s creepy.

But yah, the whole thing is pretty funny. He’s upset that people on Slashdot were makin fun of him. I think it’s great how the wikipediasucks.com site makes it seem like being a porn producer a bad thing. “Jimbo” Wales should be given a medal.
