I’ve been working for the past 24 hours at a client site in Des Moines. We’ve been migrating them from NT 4.0 to Windows 2000. While my boss, Jeremy, was on the phone with Microsoft tech support, I decided to call Sony to see about getting my notebook fixed. They said it was still under warranty so they’re going to send me a box and a packaging list. They said the materials should arrive around Wednesday. So my notebook should be fixed within the next few weeks. Hopefully Sony’s repair service isn’t as pathetic as IBM’s (and many other places).

Chances are good that I’ll be moving to Chicago sometime in August. Jeremy, my boss at J.D. Web Services, wants to move the company from Des Moines to Chicago. I’ll probably end up going with him. If I had to say right now, there’s probably a 95% chance that I’ll be moving there. We’re driving up there sometime next week to check out a few offices and apartments.

Linux Kernel 2.4.21 has been released. This release comes more than six months after the release of 2.4.20. I guess there’s been changes made that should improve system performance under heavy disk load. So far, I haven’t noticed any difference…my ide read/writes are piss slow.

Yesterday for work, we went to migrate a business from Windows NT to Windows 2000. I took my Sony Vaio PCG-GRX500 with me, it came in very useful. We got done around 3:00 am, and when I got home, my notebook wouldn’t turn on. The power light comes on, but it never even reaches the BIOS screen. Something is really screwed up with it.
I submitted a support request with Sony. Hopefully they’ll have something for me in the morning. I don’t know what I’ll do if they can’t repair/replace it.

Yesterday, I upgraded from Slackware 8.1 to Slackware 9.0. So far, everything works pretty well. Since upgrading, I installed the newest version of Dropline Gnome. Dropline Gnome is very, very good. The new, GTK+2 version of Ximian Evolution is pretty nice too.
