Outages

This website was offline most of lastnight and this morning. We were having some pretty good storms here. They’ll probably continue throughout today and this evening, so expect more downtime.

Leave ISU coach Larry Eustachy Alone

Pictures of Iowa State University mens basketball coach Larry Eustachy at a student party have bee published in the Des Moines Register. In my opinion, it’s being blown way out of proportion. He’s a grown man and is able to make his own decisions. Yes, he’s a role model, but does that mean he’s not allowed to drink alcohol and smoke? I think not. Hopefully the university doesn’t do anything stupid such as suspending him. Here’s a link to the story:

PHP 4.3.2RC2

According to php.net, PHP 4.3.2RC2 has been released. Here’s what they have say about it.

PHP 4.3.2RC2 has been released. This is the second release candidate and should have no critical problems/bugs. Nevertheless, please download and test it as much as possible on real-life applications to uncover any remaining issues.

I’m back

After a period of downtime, this website is back online. My roommate moved out and the internet service got cancelled, so I had to have it installed again. It was installed earlier today.

I also started using nightengale as the router. I put vectraxw away, it hadn’t been running very well lately. So, now there’s only two computers in the house, the notebook, and my workstation/router.

Apache 2.0.45

Apache 2.0.45 has been released. From the apache httpd website:

This version of Apache is principally a security and bug fix release. A summary of the bug fixes is given at the end of this document. Of particular note is that 2.0.45 addresses two security vulnerabilities, both affecting all platforms.

Prior Apache 2.0 versions through 2.0.44 had a significant Denial of Service vulnerability that was identified and reported by David Endler , and fixed with this release. The specific details of this issue will be published by David Endler one week from this release, on April 8th [this is the correct, revised date]. No more specific information is disclosed at this time, but all Apache 2.0 users are encouraged to upgrade now. [http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CAN-2003-0132]

This release eliminated leaks of several file descriptors to child processes, such as CGI scripts, which could consitute a security threat on servers that run untrusted CGI scripts. This issue was identified, reported and addressed by Christian Kratzer and Bjoern A. Zeeb .
