Noooo!

0

Today is truly a sad day. As I was approaching 65 days uptime, the power went out. Now, I’m back down to zero. The last time I had rebooted the web server was when I compiled kernel 2.4.18 (the day of it’s release).

Hopefully 2.4.19 is released before I get another huge uptime and have to reboot again.

A few updates

The “Distributions” section is now functional. This is in the “Linux” area.

Also, check out my web servers uptime. It’s in the “System Status” section of the “Information” area. It’s getting pretty high.

I’ve also started using that horribly slow external modem. I found some drivers at the USR website. After I installed the drivers, I connected at 115kbps! It didn’t perfom any better than a 36.0kbps connection though. Now I can usually connect at 36.0kbps, which isn’t too bad for me. With the old pci modem that died, I’d usually get 38.6kbps.

Some more goodies

I got a new power supply from OCsystem. You can check it out here:
http://www.ocsystem.com/40dualfanp4r.html.

It looks pretty sweet. It’s 420watts and it has a neat clear fan on the side. The fan speed can also be monitored through your motherboard.

I also purchased two silver 24″ round cables. Hopefully these will free up some room in my case. They should also improve airflow.

I’m very excited for these items to arrive!

My modem is dying

0

Since I’ve started using my new processor, my modem has pretty much quit working. It’s an internal Lucent PCI modem. Most of the time, I can’t even query the modem from the modem properties window. I’ll either buy another or start using a very, very slow external modem.

Graduation and the summer

0

My high school graduation was today. I had my open house lastnight. I came out with around $1400. I didn’t expect to get even half of that. I’ll also be getting a brand new Sony Vaio GRX notebook (16.1″ screen) from my father and step-mother.

I’ve also found out that I’ll continue working at home for Captain Jack Communications. I do web development for them (in PHP and MySQL). I also do a bit of system admining.
